Most modalities are organized around a layer. Cognitive work organizes around thought. Somatic work organizes around sensation. Parts work organizes around the protective system. Each one is real, each one is useful, and each one alone has a ceiling.
The GROUND Sequence is the architecture of using all six layers in the order the nervous system can actually receive them. It is not a stack of techniques. It is a sequence, meaning the order is part of the medicine, not optional.
The six layers, in order.
- 1. Regulation, the state that has to be present before any deeper layer can be touched without re-traumatizing the system.
- 2. Sound + frequency, the field that holds the regulated state long enough for the next layer to be reached.
- 3. Somatic mapping, finding where the pattern is physically living right now, before going after its history.
- 4. Parts-level dialogue, meeting the protective part at the developmental window where it took the job.
- 5. Hypnotic precision, delivering the contradictory, embodied experience inside the reconsolidation window.
- 6. Integration + redirection, anchoring the new pattern into the life that's about to receive it.
The order is the medicine. Skip a layer and the next one lands on a closed door.
What this means for you.
If you've cycled through one-layer tools and watched the pattern come back, this is the structural reason. The pattern wasn't living on the layer the tool was working on. The work isn't to find a stronger tool for the same layer. The work is to address every layer the pattern is anchored in, in the order that lets each one stay open for the next.
You don't have to start with all six. Most people start with one session, feel the regulation arrive in their body for the first time in years, and decide from there. There is no commitment past the first hour.
- What the six layers are and why they're in this order.
- A structural reason the patterns you've tried to move haven't moved.
- An entry point you can take in one session, not six.
- Each layer holds the next one open. Skip one and the next lands on a closed door.
- The sequence is the medicine, not any single layer in isolation.
- The architecture works across audiences because the architecture isn't the audience.
- Integrative neuroscience: state → frequency → soma → part → hypnotic precision → integration is the order the system can receive.[1][2][3][4]
- Slow breathing, sound, and parts-level work each have their own evidence base; combining them into one arc is our clinical model, not a head-to-head research finding.[1][2][3][4]
